You don't need a paid CE Broker plan to renew a Texas medical license. TMB says the free Basic account is enough. To report a course, log in, click Report CE, choose the right category (for example Formal Category 1 or 1A, Medical Ethics, or Pain Management and the Prescription of Opioids), enter the details from your certificate, attach the certificate, and submit. Renew once your status shows Complete.
Report one course in CE Broker Basic
- Log in and click Report CE. It's on the Credential Overview page.
- Pick your Texas license if you hold more than one.
- Choose the category, for example Formal Category 1 or 1A, Medical Ethics and/or Professional Responsibility, Pain Management and the Prescription of Opioids, or Human Trafficking course approved by the HHSC.
- Enter the certificate details in the order CE Broker asks (TexasCMELog copy card order).
- Attach your certificate. Some options require it.
- Attest and click Submit CE. The course appears in Course History right away.
- Repeat, then check for "Complete" before opening TMB renewal.
Based on CE Broker's Report CE help article. Screens can differ by account, and CE Broker says the questions vary by board. TexasCMELog never logs into CE Broker for you.
Which category to choose
| CE Broker option | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Formal Category 1 or 1A Hours | General AMA PRA Category 1 / AOA 1-A credit |
| Medical Ethics and/or Professional Responsibility | Ethics, risk management, domestic and child abuse |
| Pain Management and the Prescription of Opioids | The 2-hour opioid course, when it's due |
| Human Trafficking course approved by the HHSC | Done/not done; enter the completion date and upload the certificate |
| Remaining Hours | Other formal or informal credit toward the 48 |
| Additional Options | Attestations: not working in an ER setting, no direct patient care, residency, board certification, human trafficking completed in the prior 2 cycles |
| Forensic Evidence CME | Shown on CE Broker's Texas page as reporting temporarily disabled (Oct. 16, 2026) |
Option names come from CE Broker's Texas physicians page and help articles. Check the exact labels in your account. Pain/opioid and human trafficking entered in their own categories also count toward ethics.
Copy-card field order
TexasCMELog's copy cards list fields in this order: Date Completed → Course Type → Subject Area → Name of CE Activity → Approver Name → Educational Provider → Hours → Attachment. That order comes from a public walkthrough for a Texas license and hasn't yet been confirmed in a physician Basic account, so match each field by its label.
Shortcuts and gotchas
- Single transcript: you can enter hours by subject area and attach one transcript. Human trafficking must be reported separately. (CE Broker)
- Attestations are under Additional Options: not working in an ER setting, no direct patient care, residency, board certification, and human trafficking completed in the prior 2 cycles.
- Human trafficking from a past cycle: enter your last completion with its date. (CE Broker HT article)
- Basic users check the Requirements tab manually against their entries (CE Broker). The TexasCMELog tracker does that math for you.
- Provider auto-reporting can take up to 30 days, and TMA auto-reports TMA credits. Check before you enter a course yourself.
- SB 31 (Life of the Mother Act) is done in MyTMB, not CE Broker.
CE Broker FAQ
Is CE Broker free in Texas?
Yes. TMB says the free Basic CE Broker account is enough for renewal. Paid plans, starting at $39.99 a year for Professional, are optional.
Do I need CE Broker Professional?
No. Professional adds a detailed compliance transcript and certificate storage, but Basic meets TMB's requirement. With Basic, you compare your entries against the Requirements tab yourself.
Why does my category show incomplete?
CE Broker can't categorize a course by its title. Report each course in the right category, such as Pain Management and the Prescription of Opioids, and file any attestations you need, such as Not Working in an ER Setting.
Can my provider report for me?
Some providers report completions to CE Broker for you; TMA auto-reports TMA credits. Check your course history before you self-report to avoid duplicates.
How long until provider-reported credits appear?
Providers can take up to 30 days to report. If a course you need isn't showing close to your renewal, report it yourself with the certificate.
